ICBC PHYSIOTHERAPY

ICBC PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENTS

Getting into a car accident can be overwhelming in many ways physically and emotionally. The last thing you need is to deal with paperwork and funding for your treatment sessions – leave this to us!

If you have been in a car accident within the last 12 weeks, you are immediately pre-approved for ICBC physiotherapy treatment sessions regardless of who was at fault. You will also have access to a variety of other healthcare providers. The first thing you need to do is report the accident to ICBC and get a claim number.

You do not need a doctor’s note to start ICBC physiotherapy treatments, but you will need to see your doctor for overall healthcare and medical prescriptions.

The chart below outlines what you can access and how much coverage is included for each session. If there is a remaining fee to be paid, this is usually paid out of pocket, or covered by your own extended health provider. These are the current new guidelines and are in effect from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. If your car accident occurred before April 1st, you will fall under the old rules.

The first paramedical service that you will likely see is the physiotherapist. As your registered physiotherapist in Burnaby, we will assess, diagnose, and treat your injury.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MY FIRST ICBC PHYSIOTHERAPY VISIT?

When you come in for your first visit, we will first talk and get a history of your health as well as some details of your car accident. This may include getting details like your sitting position at the time of the accident, if your head is turned over to one direction, how fast you and the other car were moving, and the direction and location of the impact.

Once we get a good history, we will conduct a physical exam to see how your body is moving. We will get you moving in different directions, test muscle strength, and if required test to see how your nerves are functioning, and other special tests. If we see that further investigations or imaging are required for your condition, we will communicate with your family doctor.

TREATMENT PLAN

After your physical examination, we will be able to diagnose your injury, and start physiotherapy treatment. Your treatment session can include one or multiple techniques such as acupuncture, IMS, electrical modalities, manual therapy, cupping therapy, and exercise therapy. To have a better understanding of these techniques, refer to our “Physiotherapy Services” section on our menu for detailed explanations.

We often find that injuries from motor vehicle accidents benefit from working in conjunction with other healthcare practitioners. We often refer to other paramedical services as needed to optimize your recovery. We will also direct bill and communicate with your ICBC support and recovery specialist as needed.

If your injury extends beyond the 12 weeks and further treatment is required, we will submit the necessary documents for approval of further ICBC physiotherapy visits.
