WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy for Workplace Injuries – EastWest Physiotherapy Burnaby

Sustained an injury at work? Whether from lifting a heavy load, a slip or fall, repetitive strain at your desk, or other job-related accidents, WorkSafeBC (WSBC) can support your recovery. At EastWest Physiotherapy in Burnaby, we are a WorkSafeBC-contracted Physiotherapy provider, meaning we handle billing and paperwork so you can focus on your recovery.

What WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy Means for You

WorkSafeBC is the provincial workers’ compensation system that covers medically necessary care for work-related injuries. Once your claim is accepted, WorkSafeBC pays for physiotherapy services if they are reasonably required for your recovery and return to work.

If approved, using a WorkSafeBC-contracted provider ensures that:

  • You pay nothing out of pocket for covered physiotherapy.

  • Treatment is provided based on your injury needs and you get personalized care tailored to your workplace injury.

  • Your Physiotherapist can coordinate and advise with your employer and WorkSafeBC in supporting a safe, gradual return-to-work plan.

Who Is Eligible for WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy?

You may qualify for WorkSafeBC physiotherapy if:

  • You suffered an injury or occupational illness at work (e.g. sprain, strain, repetitive stress, fall, impact, overuse).

  • You report the injury to your employer and let WorkSafeBC know as soon as possible.

  • You choose a physiotherapy clinic that is contracted with WorkSafeBC like us at EastWest Physiotherapy in Burnaby.

Even if your claim is pending approval, our Burnaby clinic can provide the initial assessment under WorkSafeBC. This initial session will be covered by WorkSafeBC.

How to Start Your WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy Claim

Report the injury immediately to your employer (first aid and/or supervisor).

See your family doctor if needed, especially if there is significant pain, fracture, or need for imaging. WorkSafeBC may require medical documentation.

File a claim with WorkSafeBC (online or by phone) to receive a claim number.

Book your first appointment with a WorkSafeBC-contracted physiotherapist (like us) and provide your claim number.

Once you have a valid claim number and provide this to us, we handle the rest.

What Happens During Your WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy Treatment

  • You will need to fill out some basic information on our online form upon booking your initial assessment regarding your Claim (Employer Info, Work duties, date of injury, work schedule, claim number, etc.)

  • Initial Assessment: A thorough history (how the injury occurred, work tasks, previous health issues) and a physical examination. We’ll also assess your work demands and address any limitations or modified duties available at work.

  • Treatment Plan: Based on your condition, we may use manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, modalities (electrotherapy, ultrasound, etc.), IMS, acupuncture, or other techniques, whichever best suits your recovery and preference.

  • Treatment and Rehab: We guide you through pain control, restoring mobility, rebuilding strength, correcting movement patterns, and retraining for work tasks or daily activities.

  • Return-to-Work Plan: As you progress, we can help coordinate modified duties or gradual return to work, liaising with WorkSafeBC and your employer to ensure a safe, durable transition.

What WorkSafeBC Covers (and What to Expect)

  • For an accepted work injury claim, physiotherapy is covered free of charge if performed by a WorkSafeBC-contracted provider.

  • The usual structure under the current WorkSafeBC contract (since June 1, 2022) is: one initial assessment visit, then a treatment period covering up to 15 visits or 6 weeks (whichever comes first).

  • If more treatment is needed beyond what is approved, your physiotherapist can submit an extension request, which may be approved depending on medical need and functional progress.

There is no upfront cost to you when using a contracted clinic.
